We live in a city called Tondabayashi city in Southern Osaka. It is one of the local city, not so famous--many people recognize this city if we say there are a big PL tower and PL High school(this high school is very famous with very strong baseball team). In many case people from other area say, `where is it?`

There is no village anymore in Osaka prefecture, except only one village and it is Chihaya Akasaka village. The village locates in southeast of Osaka and next to Tondabayashi city. Chihaya Akasaka village is very `inaka`(countryside-Tondabayashi is inaka too!) with a lot of nature and rice pond. You may feel like going back some decades ago if you visit this tranquil village. They are proud of Kusunoki Masashige, a famous samurai who was said to be born in 1294 in this village Here is more information about this samurai: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kusunoki_Masashige

The local people call the shrine where he has been enshrined as `Suibun san`(the real name is Tatemikumari) and the big aki festival is dedicated to the god of the shrine. The third weekend of October- it must be the biggest and most exciting day for this peaceful village. All people from this village seemed to be back here for these days with passion. As we have introduced before, Danjiri is the main event of autumn festival here too. Here their danjiri always proceed with songs(some people call the danjiri here as `KARAIJE danjiri`). Each danjiri gathered passing narrow slopes among the village along the ricefield with singing all the way, presenting each small settlement(ujiko-shrine parishioner). There are approx 18 danjiri. The each danjiri were decorated with lanterns and decorative curtains. The each danjiri came with several young men on the roof, singers in front, a drummer and bell ringing boy riding on the side. There were one or two older men telling younger people what to do on the float too(some of them looked so stern!). Then young women(their costume were so unique!), children and women with baby strollers were following. They wore happi with their own color and name on the back. Even the babies in the stroller were wearing the same happi and hachimaki(hairband). They all looked so proud! Although, Tondabayashi and Chihaya Akasaka village is next to each other, the scenery is quite different. There started a big shower, and we could not stay longer, but when finally all the danjiri gathered, they dedicated the short skit - people have been practicing this since summer. The rice harvest was finished by the time of this event and for these three days, the village was filled with singing and the laughter of people of happy reunion. We could feel this is a very precious event for this tranquil village.
